Lo scorso mese di luglio 2025 a Parigi, in clinica, è venuto a mancare il Professor Paul-André Turcotte, membro dell’International Advisory Board dell’ICSOR.
Turcotte, Amico caro e sincero, è stato uno straordinario formatore di giovani sociologi, specialmente africani, nonché uno studioso di prim’ordine, in varie sedi accademiche, fra cui l’Institut Catholique de Paris. Costantemente presente negli incontri internazionali, è stato un amabile conviviale ed un conoscitore approfondito delle dinamiche accademiche, nonché membro della Congregazione di San Viatore. Ci mancherà.

Morì presso la Maison médicale Jeanne Garnier, a Parigi, il 20 luglio 2025, all’età di 82 anni, nel suo 64° anno di vita religiosa (1961-2025) nella Congregazione dei Chierici di San Viatore del Canada.
Fratel Paul-André Turcotte è nato il 10 luglio 1943 a St-Cuthbert, diocesi di Joliette. Era figlio di Paul-Émery e Adora Fontaine, entrambi defunti. Si unisce al fratello Martial, scomparso nel 2018. Oltre alla sua famiglia religiosa, lascia i fratelli e le sorelle Jacqueline, Huguette, Richard, Mario, Hélène, Gilles, Marie-Andrée, i loro coniugi, numerosi nipoti e amici.
Fr. Turcotte ha dedicato diversi anni a studi approfonditi, conseguendo lauree in pedagogia, teologia e catechesi, nonché un dottorato in sociologia presso l’École des hautes études en sciences sociales di Parigi e un dottorato in teologia presso l’Institut catholique de Paris. Ha inoltre svolto attività di ricerca post-dottorato presso il Groupe de sociologie des religions di Parigi e presso il Saint Paul University Research Centre di Ottawa.
Fr. Turcotte ha svolto una carriera nell’insegnamento e nella ricerca universitaria: Grand Séminaire e Facoltà di Teologia di Port-au-Prince (1971-1975), Centro Nazionale per la Ricerca Scientifica (1997-2004), Istituto di Studi Pastorali dell’Università Saint Paul e dell’Università di Ottawa (1980-1998), Istituto Cattolico di Parigi (1993-2006). Nel corso della sua carriera è stato direttore di ricerca e professore ospite presso diverse istituzioni (Beirut, Roma, Valencia, Yaoundé). È stato anche direttore fondatore del Gruppo di Scienze Sociali delle Religioni (Università Saint Paul). Ha partecipato a numerosi gruppi di ricerca ed è stato membro di diversi consigli di amministrazione e società di ricerca. Ha accompagnato un gran numero di studenti e comunità religiose.

I funerali di Fratel Paul-André Turcotte saranno celebrati alla presenza delle ceneri nello stesso luogo, mercoledì 20 agosto 2025 alle ore 14:00, seguiti dalla sepoltura nel cimitero della Congregazione a Joliette.

He died at the Maison médicale Jeanne Garnier in Paris on July 20, 2025, at the age of 82, in his 64th year of religious life (1961-2025) in the Congregation of the Clerics of Saint Viator of Canada.
Brother Paul-André Turcotte was born on July 10, 1943, in St-Cuthbert, Diocese of Joliette. He was the son of Paul-Émery and Adora Fontaine, both deceased. He joins his brother Martial, who passed away in 2018. In addition to his religious family, he leaves behind his brothers and sisters Jacqueline, Huguette, Richard, Mario, Hélène, Gilles, Marie-Andrée, their spouses, numerous nieces and nephews, and friends.
Fr. Turcotte devoted several years to in-depth studies, earning degrees in education, theology, and catechesis, as well as a doctorate in sociology from the École des hautes études en sciences sociales in Paris and a doctorate in theology from the Institut catholique de Paris. He also conducted post-doctoral research at the Groupe de sociologie des religions in Paris and at the Saint Paul University Research Centre in Ottawa.
Fr. Turcotte has had a career in university teaching and research: Grand Séminaire and Faculty of Theology of Port-au-Prince (1971-1975), National Center for Scientific Research (1997-2004), Institute of Pastoral Studies of Saint Paul University and the University of Ottawa (1980-1998), Catholic Institute of Paris (1993-2006). During his career, he has been a research director and visiting professor at various institutions (Beirut, Rome, Valencia, Yaoundé). He was also the founding director of the Social Sciences of Religions Group (Saint Paul University). He participated in numerous research groups and was a member of several boards of directors and research societies. He accompanied a large number of students and religious communities.
A prayer vigil in his memory will be held on Tuesday, August 19, at 7:30 p.m. at the

The funeral of Brother Paul-André Turcotte will be celebrated in the presence of his ashes at the same location on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., followed by burial in the Congregation’s cemetery in Joliette.
